How to use this tool

  1. Choose or drop a PDF file.
  2. Select a compression level and press Compress PDF.
  3. Check the reported saving, download the result and review its readability.

Compression depends on what is inside your PDF

Image-heavy documents often offer the largest savings. Balanced and Maximum can lower image quality and resolution; Light optimizes the PDF structure. Existing text is not converted into a picture. Some PDFs will not shrink, and the original is returned if the output would be larger. Use an unsigned copy of digitally signed documents.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my PDF not shrink?
Light optimizes PDF structure; Balanced and Maximum also recompress supported JPEG and PNG-style images. Savings depend on the document and some files will not shrink. The original is returned if there is no reduction. Re-saving can invalidate digital signatures.
Can I compress a PDF to exactly 100 KB?
There is no guaranteed target size. The result depends on the pages, images and existing compression. Try Maximum if a smaller result matters more than image detail, then inspect the download.
